At Beyond Journeys, our mission is to inspire meaningful travel by connecting seekers with authentic cultures, lesser-known destinations, and experiences that enrich the soul. We aim to redefine what it means to explore—encouraging travelers to live every moment with curiosity, presence, and purpose.
Founders
Nishal Lama (Co-Founder & Creative Director)
Nishal is a creative director and independent photographer with a deep-rooted background in journalism and an enduring passion for storytelling. With a career built on capturing narratives across various mediums—from film to digital—Nishal has traveled extensively across North East India, specializing in photographing the region’s most remote and untouched corners.
His work goes beyond the lens; he documents on-ground experiences that bridge the gap between authentic local life and compelling visual storytelling. For Nishal, Beyond Journeys is a natural extension of this lifelong mission to share the profound beauty and untold stories of the regions he explores. Outside of the trail, he is the founder of the creative agency Beyond Crimson and the production house Dropd Studio, where he leads cross-functional teams from concept to final cut.
Robin Basnet (Co-Founder & Sustainability Leader)
Robin Basnet is more than a social entrepreneur; he is a visionary advocate for community-driven tourism who believes in purpose over profit. His pioneering work in sustainable tourism has had a significant impact on Yangang, South Sikkim, where he has helped develop a blueprint for a new model of responsible travel.
As a co-founder of Beyond Journeys, Robin brings his expertise in creating travel experiences that are as ethical as they are immersive. He is dedicated to uncovering and promoting destinations that benefit the local people and protect the environment. Through his leadership, Beyond Journeys ensures that every expedition supports the heart of the community, offering travelers a chance to experience the North East through the eyes of a true advocate for the land.
Finding Beyond Journeys
Elara, Kai, and Ben had been on a perpetual journey for a decade, their luggage weathered and their passports thick with stamps. They called themselves the “Settlement Seekers.” They traveled from the crowded, soaring cities of the West to the tranquil villages of the South, hoping to find that one thing—a perfect town, a perfect job, a perfect house—that would finally make them unpack for good.
One rainy afternoon, huddled in a tea stall in Sikkim, gazing at the mist-shrouded peaks, Elara sighed,
“Is there really a destination for us? A final stop?”
Kai, tracing a line on his dog-eared map, finally looked up, his eyes bright.
“Maybe we’ve been looking for the wrong kind of settlement. We keep trying to anchor ourselves to a place, but what if our anchor is the movement itself?”
Ben nodded, a slow, profound smile spreading across his face. “The thing we’ve been trying to find is the one thing we’ve always done. Our passion is to travel.”
And so, Beyond Journeys was created.
